Active School Week , June 10th -14th, at Kilsheelan NS was a fantastic, energy-packed event that brought our school community together for a week of movement, fun, and friendly competition. Each day started with Wake Up, Shake Up on the yard, where students and teachers gathered for lively warm-ups to music, getting everyone energized and ready to begin the day on an active note.
The week was filled with a range of creative activities, including a schoolwide Treasure Hunt on our amazing GAA walkway, a big thanks as always to Kilsheelan/Kilcash GAA for the continued and generous use of their grounds. Students followed clues around the school grounds, racing to solve riddles and find hidden “treasures,” promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and outdoor fun.
One of the week’s highlights was the Noodle Grand National, a playful obstacle course using pool noodles to create hurdles and paths for students to navigate. This activity encouraged agility, balance, and plenty of laughter as classes competed in this whimsical “race.” Our tug of war was keenly contested by all classes To add an extra element of excitement, we held Teacher Challenges, where students got to watch—and cheer on—their teachers as they faced off in physical challenges like Backs against the Wall, boules and Hoops. This brought a sense of friendly rivalry and community spirit that everyone enjoyed.
Throughout the week, a special our speaker created a party atmosphere in the yard at breaktimes, where the children could boogie and conga to their favourite songs. Along with this, special visits from dance teacher, Jessica Stokes, and Fundamental Movement Coach, Barry Mullane, was a treat for the children. Throughout the week all children were encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to school to enhance our physical activity
Active School Week was a true celebration of health and movement at Kilsheelan NS, bringing everyone closer to our goal of an Active School Flag.
